Two 'RARE' Budweiser Lighted Sconces - Estimate 1960's - Non Chimney Type
If you collect Budweiser Beer items (or just rare beer signs) these will highlight your collection. These thin milk glass globes are not the typical sconce globes with the chimney. The design on the globes is also different.Opened access top with a mild lip and the typical base for setting into the sconces base plate.
I estimate these are from the 1960's or 'possibly' a year earlier. I was informed that the Tampa brewery did not open until 1959.
Globes Condition: There are no cracks or chips on this pair. Very nice color. A set of keepers for your beer sign collection that do not come around very often.
Sconce Bases: Both bases are cast metal that looks to be brass plated. Cast into the pieces it reads:
Anheuser Busch Inc. Brewers Of Budweiser Beer
St. Louis MO Newark NJ Los Angeles CALIF
Miami FL Tampa FL USA Item No. 003-110 60
Both still have the Union Label on them.
Most area's of the bases are mostly non magnetic with the exception of the stems, screws and thumb pin. There are a few area's that are lightly magnetic which leads me to believe they are cast aluminum and zinc with some ferrous metal additives.
The globe base receptacles are stamped aluminum with a steel washer under the porcelain bulb socket.
Base One:
In general good + condition especially for it's age. A couple of small dents in the sconce base. One along the outer edge another on the bottom. Original screws to hold the globe in place.
The stem itself is in good condition for it's age. Some rust or pitting.
The casting finish is in fair to good condition and has a couple of spots where the brass color has come off. The same with the thumb pin on one side. No breaks or cracks.
It has possibly been rewired? The switch, I believe, is original with the Leviton Cat. 579 push button on/off switch. It functions perfectly.
Base Two:
In general good + condition especially for it's age. Two of the globe set screws are original with one slotted replacement screw.
The stem itself is in good condition for it's age. Some minor rust, wear or pitting.
The casting finish is in fair to good condition. No breaks or cracks.
It has possibly been rewired? The switch, has been replaced with an Eagle 23 rotational on/off switch. It functions perfectly.
Both sconces can be direct wired into a wall or you can use the wired in cord which has been replaced.
